Can Chocolate eliminate Coughing?
(for more information click here)
What does chocolate have to do with coughing?
Well if you were to look at the typical highly processed, sugar filled chocolate bar found in most stores – it could be said that it contributes to poor health; poor nutrition; decreased in immune function; increase probability of diabetes; and as such probably contributes to the cough!!!
BUT, Professor Peter Barnes reported in JASEB journal that they found that a molecule found in good healthy chocolate, actually works to eliminate coughing.
HOW? A molecule identified as a theobromine “works by suppressing the vagus nerve activity, which is responsible for causing coughing”. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4032585.stm )
Further, they established that “unlike standard cough treatments, theobromine caused no adverse effects on either the cardiovascular or central nervous systems.
In fact, Professor Maria Belvisi, one of the scientists, reported “Not only did theobromine prove more effective than codeine, at the doses used it was found to have none of the side effects.” (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4032585.stm)
Now if you are interested in a chocolate that has virtually no processing; has clinical studies that support its ability to provide a huge amount of anti-oxidants; vitamins, energy boosting and disease preventing properties that rival fruis and vegetables such as: catechins, flavanols and flavonoids then contact DrHolly@choicesunlimited.ca
