MD versus alternative: what does it mean for you?
Current History:
1) An MD or medical doctor is considered conventional medicine – has gained its credibility since Rockefeller and Carnegie involved in 1910 – see http://www.choicesunlimited.ca/content/history-big-pharma
2) Alternative medicines typically have 1000s of years of practice & evolution
Current Training:
1) allopathic medicine is done in universities with curriculums typically developed by pharmaceutical companies
- a. to keep Big Pharma profitable, physicians are trained to used drugs
- b. conventional medicine is based on the Germ Theory – never actually proven, but even its originator, Pasteur , recanted that “it was not the germ but the environment in which the germ was found”
i. Journal of American Medical Association wrote “due to overwhelming evidence, we have to conclude that diet impacts on health”
2) many alternative modalities require allopathic traning as well as their own training
- a. both NDs and DNMs require a minimum of 2000 hours of allopathic training – the same time that MDs get in their own theoretical training
-
b. alternative training typically involves understanding how diet, psyche, and lifestyle impact on health & how to correct them, in addition, to how to use different modalities to eliminate imbalance in the body
Scientific Evidence:
1) allopathic medicine is typically based on hypothesis NOT evidence, a couple of examples are:
- a. low serotonin has never been proven as the cause for depression
- b. high LDL was never proven as the cause for cardiovascular disease
2) alternative medicine is not developed in a laboratory but is based on typically 1000s of years of evolving evidence
Pharmaceuticals:
1) allopathic medicines typically evolve from: identifying the active constituent in a plant; isolating it; then synthesizing it; then identifying which analysis will be run and which ones will actually be reported
- a. thus they use isolated synthetic drugs and expect them to have the same impact as the whole food, herb, etc
- b. New England Journal of Medicine reports that the “end result of most drug therapy is harmful side effects”
- c. consequently it has been estimated that over 70% of patented pharmaceuticals in the last 30 years have had to be taken off the market because they cause more harm than good
i. thus your extensive lists of side effects, including death
2) alternative medicines typically use nature: food, herbs, minerals, etc & combinations
- a. typically with little or no side effects
-
b. when side effects are seen they are usually the result of the body detoxing what it needs to get rid of
Other therapeutic interventions:
1) allopathic medicine typically uses harmful, invasive, and toxic modalities
- a. WHO (World Health Organization) claims that about 80% of surgeries in North America are unnecessary and ineffective; the US Government claims it is about 75%
- b. Studies claim that upwards of 92% of oncologists would not use chemo or radiation if they had cancer
- c. An Orthopedic journal claimed that 72% of orthopedic surgeons surveyed failed to pass an introductory exam
2) alternative medicines use the body and nature to heal the body
- a. Ayurvedic & panchakarma or pranayama treatments
- b. Chinese Medicine & various forms of acupuncture, acupressure, etc;
- c. reflexology, massage, and various body exercises: Yoga, Qigong
-
d. Almost all alternative healing modalities use food and herbs to heal – as has been done by mankind and animals for 1000s of years
Todays science:
1) today Western allopathic science is repeatedly finding that the old medicines have truth, validity and great results, here are a few results just from Harvard
- a. Harvard stated that massage can help a majority of illnesses
- i. Why? because it gets the body fluids moving, ie., blood, lymph, cerespinal fluid, etc, to both detox and bring nutrients to where they are needed
- b. Harvard claimed they identified the molecular structure of the Ayurvedic or Accupuncture meridians and that energetic information travels faster than the speed of light in these meridians and hugely impacts the body
- c. Harvard has now recognized Tumeric as anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, digestive aid; and effective in treating disorders from cancer to cholesterol
So we come to following conclusion: it is your body; you be responsible; you do the research; then you decide...what is best for you...
1) sometimes the allopathic approach can be helpful
2) sometimes the alternative approaches are more helpful
3) sometimes it is a combination
