Your lymph system basically parallels your circulatory system and is the sewage drainage/filter mechanism for your blood. Immune-Book

You WANT it to be strong and effective.

However, all kinds of things can cause problems with the lymph system which will back up and cause all kinds of other issues.

One of the most common causes of lymph congestion is dehydration. We DO NOT need 8 glasses of 8 oz of water a day, or the 8×8 rule as it came to be known.  However, our bodies do require sufficient fluids that we can get through healthy fruit and vegetables and by drinking.

Now water in the body is not like water outside the body, i.e, H20.   The water in your body is called “Structured Water” and is H302.  Our bodies are very adept at creating the fludis rquired for the blood (70% water) and the lymphatic system, never mind the internal cellular fluid and the external cellular fluid.

The 8×8 rule was suggested as a protocol when working out and loosing alot of water through perspiration – but it was merely a suggestion made in a Chatalaine like magazine and never proven. Subsequent research shows that that much water is toxic to the body; hard on the cardiovascular system and hard on the kidneys and may make you loose alot of nutrient, in particular, your electrolytes.

How much should you drink?  When your body tells you you are thirsty!!  Just like you eat when your body tells you you are hungry,.

Having said that, too many people drink sugar filled fruits and other drinks instead of water and consequently become dehydrated.

Now when you are dehydrated, it is hard on your lymphatic system.  Your lymph system is hugely water and when there is insufficient water, it gets congested.  So let’s look at some common symptoms of lymphatic congestion:

 

• Rings get tight on fingers
• Soreness and/or stiffness in the morning
• Feeling tired
• Bloating / Holding on to water
• Itchy skin
• Weight gain and extra belly fat
• Swollen glands
• Low immunity
• Brain fog
• Breast swelling or soreness with each cycle
• Dry skin
• Mild rash or acne
• Hypersensitivity
• Mild headaches
• Elevated histamine and irritation due to common environmental allergens
• Occasional constipation, diarrhea, and/or mucus in the stool
So if our lymphatic system is congested, we can do the following:
1) get a lymphatic massage – Swedish style
2) get a lymphatic massage – Ayurveda style – using heated oils for your particular dosha
3) massage your own lymph glands, particularly those in the chest- make sure you get someone to show you how, if you don’t do it properly you will aches for ages
4) eat foods like beets, avodcados, cranberries, leafy green vegetables high in chlorophyll to help clean your lymph system
5) take a tincture of herbs like Galium aparine, Rumex crispus, Trifolium pratense, that will help clean your lymph system
All in all, if you take care of your Immune System, it will take care of you!!!
